About Us
Urban Warriors is an organisation set up by people with passion.
We are passionate about social justice, social inclusion, social responsibility and social grace.
We are not prepared to stand back while people are disadvantaged, downtrodden, disaffected, disinterested and disconnected.
We are people who are passionate about People and about God.
We are people who are prepared to go against the flow, people who will not conform to the social stereotyping, people who will fight against apathy and ignorance.
People who put faith into action.
Isaiah 61
The Year of the LORD's Favour
The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendour.
Testimony by Sophia Schopfle
It was during a gap year in Germany in 2008 that I went to this 'Youth and Schools Work Conference'. There I heard about Urban Warriors in England and their work. The person talking was the current Youth Pastor of Yeovil Community Church at that time. I was really interested in what he had to say about the broken young people in England and elsewhere and I suddenly really felt that God wanted me to leave my country to serve in England and to work with children and young people!
During that year and being involved in schools work, a Youth Cafe and the youth groups of the local church I got to love the town and the people living in there with all my heart.
I faced loads of challenges and it wasn't all easy. But it helped me to find out what the next step for my life looks like.
I never really knew what to do with my life. I actually stumbled into youth work without a lot of training or anything.
Now, 1 1/2 years later I'm still in Yeovil doing a second year and after that I'm gonna start an apprenticeship in Germany which has a lot to do with children and young people. Everything I've learned and experienced here will be very valuable for me in the future.
I never expected to come to and to live in England ever! But it was and it is worth it. If you ever want to be challenged and take a year out just for God to obey him and allow him to shape you and your heart (which will change your life), I would recommend Urban Warriors to you.
By the way: It's not a slacker year. :) Come prepared for lots of work and transformation!"
